Dear All Ohioans,
I give you permission to say, “Sorry, I’m not sorry.”
I’ve heard it too many times before… and I’ve actually been guilty of saying it myself. As soon as we hear someone say they moved from California, New York, Florida, or somewhere warm from the West Coast to good ole’ Ohio --- we immediately apologize and ask them why.
It’s not our fault, right? We’re so use to being National Fans for our sports teams, we forget to be National Fans for our geographic location. I get it… you never know what to wear for the unpredictable snowstorm in Spring or how to prepare for freezing cold winds when it’s sunny outside.
We barely have a beach and anyone not from Ohio thinks we all live on farms and raise cows. And guess what? Some of us do live on farms, and some of us do raise cows! Thanks to our farmers, those of us that live in the cities get to eat local food, grown by local people, and we shouldn't be ashamed of that.
By apologizing to our Ohio transplants and asking them why they moved to Ohio --- it’s an insult to us and an insult to our beautiful state. We can compliment where they’re from without putting our own state down. Ohio is a beautiful state that has so much to offer, from a diverse food scene to local craft breweries and beautiful hiking trails. You can spend hours getting lost in the history, art and culture we have all around the buckeye state.
Be proud of where you’re from, love the life you live and make the best of every experience - and do it unapologetically. Ohio is a great place to live, eat and play. Let's tell the world that.
