On Sunday, my friend Ryann and I went hiking at Hocking Hills State Park in Logan, OH. I was born, raised, and educated in Ohio and when I tell you I wish I would have discovered or visited this beautiful site sooner, I'm going to tell you now don't make the same mistake as I.
Hocking Hills State Park is absolutely beautiful. For so many years I had been telling myself, oh I'll visit someday, but never did. This past weekend, it was my two best friends' birthdays and I was scared I'd suffer from a mild hangover and not be able to hike on Sunday. My friend Ryann sent me an early morning text at 9 a.m. saying she was ready to go and I replied at 9:31 a.m. thinking "Oh s%*t, I'm not hungover. I'll be ready to go in 30 minutes."
I grabbed a Gatorade and was out the door. We drove down US-33 and were on our way to one of Ohio's most beautiful state parks.
Thank you Discover Ohio for my Ohio Sign! I absolutely love it. Ryann and I had so much fun taking photos with it all throughout the park. Even though, I'm a Columbus Lifestyle Blogger, I am no expert to all things Ohio so I encourage everyone (locals or visitors) to check out their website. This site provides: itineraries, where to stay, where to go, and what to do.
DESTINATIONS TO FIND IN HOCKING HILLS STATE PARK:
Old Man's Cave
Colorful Rock Formations
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:
Water Shoes (Walmart sells them for $5.00)
Hiking Boots (if you go off the beaten path)
So what did a day at Hocking Hills look like for Ryann and I? Well, let's just say it consisted of five waterfalls, one hilarious fall on top of a waterfall, 15 miles of hiking, and six beautiful hours spent in one of the prettiest parks I've ever been too. It was the perfect Sunday to an amazing weekend. The weather was gorgeous and I'm sure it only gets more beautiful as the leaves change color for the Fall.
If I could give you any advice it would be 1.) Don't always choose the path that is made 2.) If you go with a friend make sure one of you isn't clumsy 3.) Touch every waterfall even the smallest ones 4.) Take really cool photos, but then take a break and just hike 5.) Use the whole day 6.) Try to catch a minnow! It's harder than it looks, trust me! 7.) Don't be scared to climb, but be safe!
After 6 hours of a very long day, Ryann and I decided to end this perfect Sunday Funday at a local BBQ place called, Millstone BBQ. Have you heard of it? If not, I suggest you get acquainted. I stuffed my face with sides and delicious pulled pork. Basically, the best decision I've ever made.
If you're not convinced by now that you need to plan a trip here, you're crazy. Take a break from the social scene and get familiar with nature.
