Congratulations! You finally made it to Friday! The day we've all been waiting for.. am I right? I don't know about you, but I'm so excited for the weekend because...
1. It's my 5 Year Anniversary with my man-friend and;
2. I'm promoting my first special discount to all my AWESOME followers.
I hope you have a sweet tooth because you're in for a delightful treat. This past Wednesday, Coppa Gelato in Westerville had it's GRAND OPENING and I had the wonderful opportunity to sit down with Linda Davis, Founder and Owner of Coppa Gelato LLC, on her exciting experience of opening her first Gelateria.
She's a former Realtor turned Gelato Master, how cool is that? Can I please be this woman? Her smile is infectious, her personality lights up a room, and her gelato is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
So how did Linda get started?
"...Well, baking actually runs in my family, but I went to Italy and studied under Maria Coassin from Maniago, Fruilli, Italy and was also taught by world famous gelato master, Stefano Tarquino from Bologna Italy," stated Linda.
Linda wanted the full experience of making gelato and not just creating a recipe for it. She then attended school at Penn State University which is known to have the largest educational program in the world of culinary arts. All famous industry leaders travel to this school from around the world to learn the secrets of ice-cream making! It almost sounds like a secret society.
To name a few students who attended, you may know:
Jeni's Splendid Ice-Creams, Baskin Robbins, Ben & Jerry's, Nestle, Haagen-Daaz, Hershey, Dairy Queen, Dreyer's, and many more.
Columbus Living: So Linda, what's your favorite flavor?
Linda: Ohhhh! That's easy -- the pistachio for sure. The nuts are imported from Sicily, Italy and it's absolutely delicious. It's true Italian Pistachio. Have you had some? (laughing about it)
"Gelato is less than half the fat of ice-cream, so you can eat twice as much of it" - Linda
Gelato (131 calories) versus Ice-Cream (278 calories)
I don't know about you all, but I'm sold! I can easily burn off 131 calories just by running a mile on the treadmill. I can finally make one of my guilty pleasures a realistic food group. Is anyone as happy about this as I am?
What makes Coppa Gelato different?
1. They only use fresh ingredients
2. Linda makes the ice-cream fresh daily
3. Many of the ingredients used are local to Ohio
4. The pistachio nuts are imported from Sicily, Italy because her Gelato Master told her, "...Only Italian Pistachios for Pistachio Gelato"
5. You know it makes sense, how can you blame her?
6. The milk and cream come from a local dairy farm in Southeast, Ohio
7. All berries are used from local fields
8. No premixes are used
9. You can eat more of it and enjoy the flavor longer!
They have 16 Gelato and Sorbetto flavors:
2. Jame's Triple Chocolate
3. Salty Caramel
4. Milk & Cookies (Oreo) -- Morgan's Favorite*
6. Milk Chocolate Hazelnut -- Taste like Nutella*
8. Pistachio -- Linda's Favorite*
9. Joey's Mint Chocolate
14. Bourbon Meyer #GoBuckeyes -- get it?
16. Cherry Chocolate Chip
Out of the 16 fabulous flavors, which one will be your favorite? I've already been back twice this week and I'm addicted. When you visit, don't forget to tell Linda and her staff what your favorite flavor is, they welcome your feedback and want to create new and better recipes in the future.
So Columbus... whose ready for a sample? Go grab a spoon and get started! Coppa Gelato is the perfect place for dessert. As soon as you walk in you'll feel like home. Do you know why? Because Linda decided to open her store in the same place she calls home - which is Westerville, OH. You'll truly enjoy the experience of this new gem in Columbus. The gelato is delicious and every bite is rich with flavor.
Thank you, Coppa Gelato for the wonderful experience! Your gelato is phenomenal and the customer service and hospitality was amazing.
