What's Up Columbus!
I hope you had a fabulous week full of fashion, art, and music. This week, I had the great opportunity to attend many spectacular events in the Columbus, OH area (and a quick road trip to Cincinnati, OH) which includes: Raw Artists Columbus: Revolution at Shadowbox Live, the CMH Fashion Week Launch Party at Hollywood Casino, and the "On The Run Tour" by Beyonce' and Jay-Z at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, OH.
On Tuesday (June 24th), Raw Artists Columbus held a showcase called, Revolution featuring more than 40+ artists showcasing their recent works. This event featured all forms of art including: visual, fashion (clothing apparel), make-up, music, and live performances. Shadowbox Live created the perfect atmosphere for visual artists and photographers to set-up their displays while interacting with onlooking spectators. This event was well put together and all the artists were extremely eager to speak about their work. This event focused on modern, street, and local art that represented a broad spectrum of artists we have locally here in Columbus and the surrounding city.
The event started at 7 p.m. and the beginning of the show featured visual artwork displayed across the room along with the make-up artists getting their models ready for end of the night fashion show. I really enjoyed that the make-up artists were in a showcase (like a piece of art) and not behind the scenes because I was able to see the art being made which was really fun to watch.
This event allowed me to network with extremely talented artists such as:
I went around the room and asked many of the artists what inspired their work? ...And this is what I learned; that this event is not uptight nor sophisticated; just a really down to earth showcase featuring local artists. To them: Art is more than what they do, it's who they are. Raw Artists Columbus is a monthly event that brings all artists of all backgrounds together in hopes to display their work for the onlooking crowds to enjoy. It's nothing more and nothing less.. it's just a really cool event hosted by some really cool kids (not the cool kids from high school, but the real cool kids). The MC of the event was hilarious and I loved how RAW (pun intended) he kept it with the audience. Before the fashion show began he started by saying, "...Be honest, you don't have to like everything you see here tonight and I'll be honest by saying I think some of the art is ugly and I don't get it but that's what makes this event so f$*king fantastic! You can look at some of the art and say, 'Wow' that's really beautiful or 'Damn' that f*%king sucks." This event encourages creativity, truth, and both beautiful and ugly art. It's all a matter of perspective, right?
Tickets are sold pre-sale at $15.00 and $20.00 at the door. If you truly love art and a relaxed atmosphere, this would be perfect for a first date or girls night out. You can get dressed up, grab a glass of wine, and walk around the room asking, "Why or Why Not?". I truly enjoy art showcases because it's not just a showing, it's a conversation. If you go to a museum you can't ask the artist, why? At Raw Artists Columbus you're able to get to know the artist which makes this event that much better.
