I'll never forget the feeling of when I built my first dresser from IKEA as a junior in college. It was a dark brown chest filled with six sliding drawers, and as a woman, I felt empowered knowing that I built it on my own. And if you’ve ever built IKEA furniture, you know the satisfaction that comes with tightening the last bolt.
With inspiration from IKEA, Watershed Kitchen & Bars’ new winter menu will encourage cocktail connoisseurs, who also love curating things, to take matters into their own hands by giving them the tools (recipes) they need to build it (mix it) on their own.
Watershed wants you to put away the tool box and grab the dry vermouth. This holiday season, they’re not just crafting up minimalist-inspired cocktails, but they’re also giving you the recipes to make them. And yes, the recipes are FREE.
Unlike shopping for IKEA furniture, you don’t have to build anything. Forget the nuts and bolts, Watershed Kitchen and Bars’ latest menu will feature no “extra parts,” as it aims to eliminate bar waste one drink at a time. You can now create your favorite Watershed cocktail in the comforts of your own home. See the latest cocktails below:
The Stock Home Syndrome
The Stock Home Syndrome, a four-ingredient cocktail, features:
Saturday Morning Cartoons
Saturday Morning Cartoons is a rotating simplified cereal milk punch that will change from week to week.
Available in a single serving format or a drink for two, this punch will always feature:
With each menu they try to include a charity cocktail, and Bartender David Yee chose to raise money for the MS Society with his Yard Work cocktail featuring:
The IKEA menu, is the fourth concept menu curated by the team at Watershed Kitchen & Bar. It is inspired by Scandinavian design, the sparse winter landscape, and the idea of creating a more sustainable bar.
Creating a more sustainable bar program has always been a goal of Watershed Kitchen & Bar, which is why the restaurant eliminated the use of bar napkins, and created sustainable citrus syrups to minimize food waste.
The cocktail recipes are printed on the menu in the “build it yourself” IKEA format for anyone to attempt to recreate at home. Beyond just the visual aspect of these drinks, the recipes were created with a “less is more” attitude utilizing as few ingredients as possible to showcase simple flavors in their most pure form.
I'm excited to try these recipes during the Christmas holiday and hope you share them with friends and family as well. If you're interested in stopping by the restaurant for a cocktail or late night dinner, see their contact information below.
