If you’ve ventured to Downtown Columbus this past summer you may have noticed all the construction taking place along the Scioto Mile. Actually you may have seen quite a few places under construction across the city, but with construction comes improvement, right?
Well, I am so excited to announce that the Grand Opening of the Scioto Mile is finally here! It’s called the Scioto Greenways Project, but we locals say otherwise. The new and improved Scioto Mile represents 33 acres of new green space, over 75,000 new plants, 800 trees and over 1.5 miles of new bike and walking paths.
The official grand opening will be on November 10 with a ceremony celebration of family-friendly activities like canoe and kayak rides, live music, face painting, paddle board yoga and of course fireworks! The fun starts at 3:30 p.m. and the fireworks will begin at 6:30 p.m. (weather pending).
There will be a ton of cool people in attendance like CEO/President Guy Worley, Project Lead of the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation (CDDC), Mayor Michael B. Coleman, representatives from City Council, Franklin County Commissioners, project sponsors and local supporters (i.e. “YOU”). The Scioto Mile was a $36 million public-private partnership designed to bring “you” the people back to the heart of downtown. Now let’s bring the city back to life! Have fun Columbus and enjoy the city, it’s yours!
