Have you heard of this infamous hash tag that’s trending all around Columbus? Of course you have because you’re a Columbus Socialite. CMH Fashion Week will be here in two weeks and I’m beyond excited for all the upcoming events planned. The events include exclusive parties, bridal shows, and so much more.
Last week, you met Akili Jahi Cooper and his fashion collection, Jahi Designs. This week, I’m excited to introduce you to Lubna Najjar, Designer and Owner of Lubna Designs. She’s a powerhouse of business and fashion and she’s a Public Relations (PR) professional and branding strategist. Her clothing brand Lubna Designs is housed under the umbrella of the Il Moda Showroom in Columbus, OH. Oh, not to mention she has a second showroom coming soon to New York City, NY. So… when can we trade lives with this woman?
Lubna has created a brand that combines both Fashion and a PR showroom all in one business. “The idea of combining both fashion and PR isn’t new. It’s just never been done in Columbus and that’s what makes Il Moda so different,” - Lubna
Il Moda focuses on brand development and product development. They promote their own clothing brands as well as work with outside businesses that need assistance with both PR and branding. Il Moda provides a Boutique Beauty Bar, a Fashion Showroom, and multiple brands under one label. Essentially, Il Moda is a product house and Lubna and her team pull elements and products from magazines, periodicals, and blogs to develop new designs and ideas for the upcoming seasons.
Recently, they just came back from New York Fashion Week and the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Music awards where they co-sponsored with DreamHouse Marketing to provide celebrity gifts. “It was an amazing experience and I can’t wait to host more events similar to that.” – Lubna.
As to date, Lubna and her team are working on a Prom Beauty Campaign that features real high school girls. She plans to collaborate with a local non-profit called; Fairy Godmother’s which is an organization dedicated to promoting confidence and self-esteem in Central Ohio High School girls. They do this by providing formal dresses and accessories to young girls who lack the means to purchase these items for themselves, thus enabling these girls to attend Prom. “We specialize in bridal wear and formal wear so why not provide dresses to these young women on their special night? Recently, we did a photo shoot with a group of girls where we did their make-up and dressed them up and you could tell they felt special.” – Lubna
Me: You seem to have a lot planned for this upcoming season, what’s your next move after the Prom Beauty Campaign?
Lubna: “That’s a great question! My team and I are actually putting together a series of workshops to come learn about the industry. I have learned so much in the past couple of years, so why not share it? The prices will range from $15.00-$75.00. The class will be once a week and it will focus on business, manufacturing, and more.”
If you’re in Fashion and plan on being in business for yourself, I suggest you follow Il Moda to stay up to date on their upcoming series. It’s a great way to network and understand the business behind developing a brand. Also, starting Monday, November 1st, Il Moda plans to host a “Girls Night Out” event which will consist of drinks, make-up, and more. On a regular basis she plans to host these events on Thursdays. “If I had a life I would totally do this with friends.” – Lubna
This woman is a powerhouse by fashion and by business. “I love Columbus. There’s so much going on in fashion here that people just don’t know. We’re #3 in fashion and the market here only continues to grow.” – Lubna.
After 20 minutes of extremely fast and detailed conversation, I quickly gained a sense of respect for Lubna. She’s professional, polished, and always on the go. If you don’t know her by now, get to know the name because it won’t be the last time you hear it. This weekend, Il Moda is hosting an exclusive shopping event on Saturday, October 4th from 5 p.m. -9 p.m. There will be new looks and styles that no one has seen before. The night will consist of drinks, music, and fashion. Come out and support the event during Gallery Hop and I promise you, that you won’t be disappointed.
